Lil’ Dolphins

Ages: 2 years – 4 years

Class Size: 2 students, 1 instructor

Children between 2 and 4 years of age develop their swimming in a fun and non-threatening environment. Swimming skills are taught through fun games and activities. Preschoolers learn to overcome fears and build confidence, creating a positive swim experience.

Dolphin 1 – 10

The Swim for Success Dolphin program consists of 10 progression-based levels designed to create strong and competent swimmers that will have a good understanding of water safety and can confidently perform 5 different strokes, and a variety of entries, exits & in-water skills.

Swim Plus

Ages: 2 - 18 years

Class Size: 1 or 2 students, 1 instructor

A specialized program and unique approach to teach persons of special needs to swim. Swimmers will excel with their swimming skills, as they work on individualized and customized goals, unique to each, in a positive and fun environment.

Advanced Programs

Ages 9 -12 years

Swim Patrol

Class Size: 10 students, 1 instructor

Prerequisite: Dolphin 10

This is the on-ramp to lifeguarding for 9-12-year-olds who are ready to go beyond the regular Swim for Success Program. Content is organized in 3 groups, water proficiency, first aid, and rescue.

Ages 12 - 13 years

Bronze Star

Class Size: 10 students, 1 instructor

Prerequisite: Completed Dolphin 10

The Bronze Star develops swimming proficiency, lifesaving skill, and personal fitness. This course is designed to prepare candidates for Bronze Medallion by introducing fitness principles, self-rescue skills and stroke mechanics.

Ages 13+ years

Bronze Medallion

Class Size: 10 students, 1 instructor

Prerequisite: Dolphin 10 or equivalent or Bronze Star (if 12 years old)

Teaches candidates how to assess and problem-solve to make good decisions in, on, and around the water. The basis of the training is formed through Judgment, knowledge, skill, and fitness.

Bronze Cross

Class Size: 10 students, 1 instructor

Prerequisite: Bronze Medallion

Begins the transition from lifesaving to lifeguarding and prepares candidates for responsibilities ass assistant lifeguards. Candidates will learn techniques of active surveillance in aquatic facilities.

Standard First Aid

Class Size: 18 students, 1 instructor

Prerequisite: None

Standard First Aid provides comprehensive training covering all aspects of first aid and CPR. Often offered in conjunction with National Lifeguard

National Lifeguard

Class Size: 18 students, 1 instructor

Prerequisite: 15 years of age + Bronze Cross

National Lifeguard is recognized as the standard measure of lifeguard performance in Canada.

Lifesaving Swim Instructor Course (LSSI)

Class Size: 18 students, 1 instructor

Prerequisite: Bronze Cross

Candidates focus on strategies to introduce and develop swimming and water safety skills in the Lifesaving Society Swim for Life Program.

Lifesaving Instructor Course (LSI)

Class Size: 18 students, 1 instructor

Prerequisite: Bronze Cross and Swim Instructor

Candidates learn the Swim Patrol and Bronze Curriculums.

Recert Ready

Bronze Cross Recert

Class Size: 10 students, 1 instructor

Prerequisite: Bronze Cross

This recertification course is for any candidate with a Bronze Cross award about to expire.

You do not need to recertify this if you hold the National Lifeguard award).

Lifeguard Recert

Class Size: 18 students, 1 instructor

Prerequisite: National Lifeguard Award

The NL award is designed to prepare lifeguards to fulfill this role as professional facilitators of safe, enjoyable aquatics.

Prerequisite: Lifesaving Swim Instructor

This course provides you the four points needed to recertify in case you do not meet the criteria above in the points system.

Examiner candidates are experienced Lifesaving Instructors who undergo specific training in examination standards and apprenticeship.

Canadian Red Cross Stay Safe! Course

Class Size: 12 students, 1 instructor

Learn how to be safe and responsible while on your own with the Canadian Red Cross Stay Safe! Course.

Ages 11–15 years

Canadian Red Cross Babysitter Course

Class Size: 12 students, 1 instructor

Participants learn how to run a small babysitting business and how to supervise younger siblings or other children in a safe and responsible manner.
